Bungee Group - August

Bungee group was a hit! We met at Carver Creek Dry Goods, they all bought some yarn or gift from the gift shop. Went across the street with our knitting and had lunch with the bikers. What a mix of people in one little cafe. Bikers and Knitters. This could be a new group. We then headed up the hill to my house for carrot cake and coffee. It was a gorgeous day so we sat on the front patio and knit away. It was tough to leave because it was so fun to catch up with everyone. They may be back next month because there is a huge Antique Show in the Town Hall and Craft Fair in the park in September. Plus Carver Creek and Mustard Moon will be open tooooo!

I will now send my stock out to New Prague. There is some talk of opening up Carver Creek and Mustard Moon on Fridays and I have one customer that wants knitting lessons so I could use this space for lessons as well as host it open on Fridays. Not sure yet but will find out after Monday.

New Project:

I Started a new Hat for Dan. He needs one for Broom Hockey this winter. It's black and a Fibertrends pattern of knit2, purl2 rib. Easy and fast.
I'm out to the garden to cut back shrubs. Have a great Day!

Well, this is more like it....

Do I love this weather. Yea, my favorite temp - cool in the morning, dry and 75-80 degrees. Cool in the evening. I love it. When the humidity goes up I really melt. It has a physical affect on me, I feel sick, and I don't like it. I was so energized this morning that I picked a new boquet. I made bacon and eggs for breakfast and the house smells great. I made a carrot cake this week and I'm making everyone eat some or I'll finish it off myself.

Dan stayed over last night and we had Walleye, fresh corn on the cob, Colorado Peaches and some mediocre shrimp. Can't get much better than that. We watched the Olympics- diving was incredible and the relay races were tragic and great. What a bummer to drop the baton and trip Great Britain. Wow!

It's my first weekend at Carver Creek Dry goods and I guess I sold yarn, needles, patterns but no Sweet Pea Jackets. I even lowered the price but maybe they will sell in New Prague. New Prague and Carver have dual events coming up in September. I will post the dates on the website but I guess they all do really well for these events.
Today, Sat. the 23rd, the knit group is carpooling out here - I haven't seen them forever so it will be fun to re-connect and see what everyone is doing.

I got a Chico's catalog yesterday and there is a Vest sweater in there that I want to make. I hope Nancy has some ideas for me. It's a cotton/viscose blend in the catalog and looks rather bulky so I'll have to see what is in my stash. It's a long vest with fold over lapels out of Cream tweedy fabric. Very cute!

FINISHED PROJECT: Drum roll pleeeeeese! Top of dress has a picot edge. I made this out of Bamboo/Cotton by Valley Yarns, it is so soft and nice to handle. It holds it shape really well and is handwashable, Debbie Bliss Pattern in her book, "Special Knits".
She'll be able to wear it next year too. I made it big on purpose.

Take care and start knitting - it's cool outside

Everything is new

What are the chances of the printer and coffee maker breaking on the same day. Especially the coffee pot. I had to go to Chaska to get my coffee fix.

I finally ended up at Target with a carafe type coffee maker. Keeps my coffee fresh and hot for several hours.

The printer was making a terrible noise so I took it to Best Buy and he said it would be cheaper to buy a new one. I had had this one for probably 4 years so I was due, they usually only have a two year life and I use mine alot.

The salesman was trying to sell me an Epson which was very nice, it was black like my computer and it was $129 and the ink was cheaper than the HP, I thought. Then I looked a little closer and opened up the ink cartridge door and found that the Epson needed 5 different cartridges at $13.00 each, one for each color. Ah, HA! The HP takes two and usually you can purchase them for $40-50 and they last a long time. It has a little port for my cameral discs and prints very nice photos. I'm pleased.

Last day and HD and onto my new job at Bluff Creek Gardens. I trained yesterday and it was very pleasant. It is such a nice relaxed atmosphere!

Today is my first day at Carver Creek Drygoods with my Creative Fibers store. I am so excited. I know it will be slow but I think it will be fun to be back in the fiber business again. I have discounted everything at this point and if it goes well I'll reorder some of the basics like Encore, Brown Sheep, Domy Heather just to name a few. Stop in to see me.!

Ellie's Three

Ellie's pupcakes for her Birthday. My sister was here for Logan's birthday but wouldn't be able to be here for Ellie's so we bought her "pupcakes" decorated with flowers from Woullets Bakery and had an early party for her. Her actual Birthday Party was last Sunday and it was pinkalicious. Everyone, or almost everyone, wore pink.
She loved it! she also received a pink bike and a fluffy pink purse from Pappa that she brings everywhere she goes.

A good time was had by all!

I have been a very busy lady this week. If you are on my email list you will notice I have re-opened Creative Fibers in two locations. Two in Carver, one at my house and one at Carver Creek Drygoods in Town and another in downtown New Prague. Each location has three shops in one. They are all adorable and very worth the trip.

I will have yarn, needles, books and patterns discounted 30-50% off retail to start and then we'll see how it goes from there. I will also offer classes in Knitting, and crocheting and hope to add dyed fiber for spinners in September. This is very exciting and envigorating for me.

I have taken a new position at Bluff Creek Gardens starting the week of the 25th. This will allow me to have Fri. and Sat. free. I'm hoping to be able to get back to Betsy Back Porch again to visit with old friends. I feel like I'm always changing. I sure hope this is a good thing.

Hope to see you in Carver!

A New Twist

There is a new website - patterns from designers called http://www.twistcollective.com/. It's a way for designers to distribute their orginal patterns. Great stuff - take a look.

Well, it's been a busy week - new Twist for me is - I'm going to sell yarn, books, patterns and needles out of http://www.carvercreekdrygoods.com/ and http://www.thefrostedpane.com/ beginning the 3rd weekend, Thur. August 21 thru Sat. August 23rd. I will also have my felted toddler jackets in these shops. Carver Creek is only open the one weekend a month and the Frosted Pane in New Prague is open all week. So, people in these areas will have access to a New Creative Fibers. I will start out small and see where it goes and how much intereste we get but working with Jane and Darla is alot of fun. I will also offer knitting classes at both locations. I am updating my website to sell direct from there as well.

I was not feeling well yesterday, so I stayed home. I called my son, because I had noticed I missed a call from him the night before and he had been in the ER at United all night. He had become dehydrated and his roommates took him to the ER. He was just released when I called him so I went and got him and brought him back to my house. He was very scared and I felt so guilty for not getting the call, but was so glad I had the day off. He's feeling better today but it was quite a scare for both of us.

Knit Shops

I just read that "KnitWhits" in Chanhassen is closing, I heard last week that "The Knit Cafe" closed also. When I closed my shop a year ago, I couldn't believe they were all still making it. It's a difficult business to be in and with this economy it's almost impossible. Knitting is not a necessity, it a pleasure and we are being forced to give up our pleasures in this Country to buy gas for our cars. Meanwhile the oil companies are showing billions of dollar profits. What is going on? Anyway, it does filter down to our specialty shops, and as much as we love them, it's not enough to keep the doors open.

With that being said, I am sorry they have closed. It's tough to give up something you love.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, there are very few jobs to be had. For every interview, 80 people apply, along with me. I cannot find an Adm. Asst. position. It has been a year and I never dreamt I'd be in this position. I've never had trouble finding a job.

Anybody need a great Adm. Asst. or Personal Assistant, give me a call, meanwhile, I'll keep knitting, sewing and felting.
