What's better than Apple Pie in the Fall

What IS BETTER than apple pie in the fall and craft sales all over town. Carver is having it's Antique Sale today as well as Mustard Moon and Linda's Cellar. It's the best.

I made this pie last weekend. My friend brought me a bag full of apples and "Wa-la". I like to pack it full of apples so I don't get that little space between the apples and the crust. These apples didn't shrink down too much so it worked. Haraldson's are the best!

Had a little "oops" at the shop on Thursday and I apologize to anyone who tried to visit between 10:30-1:30 PM. Sonja thought I was working and I thought she was working. I called at 12:00 and got the answering machine -"*&***##@@! " I realized right then we had a problem. Threw on my clothes and made it by 1:30 PM. I had asked her to switch days and she thought I said this week and I meant next week. In all my confusion I'm surprised it only has happened once. Sorry!

It's going to be a gorgeous weekend! I hope I get the grass mowed. This morning I'm going antiqueing (sp?) to find a headboard and possibly a dresser. Then Herbergers to return a couple items I picked up in the Storm the other night. I was sitting in my car at Southtown (knitting on Logan's hat) waiting for the torrential rains to stop so I could run in for their big sale. It finally slowed down so I ran with my umbrella (lucky it was in the car), got in and the manager said he had sent everyone to the back of the building because a Tornado had been sighted on 494 and France. GREAT! I never saw it, probably because I was in the middle of it, just alot of wind and rain. Anything for a sale!

Have a great weekend whatever you do. Try to fit in a little knitting. Nancy has her bungee group today - everyone is invited to sit and knit. It's free. I'll be at the shop.

Driving into Carver - New Home

Dining Room

Living Room

Kitchen

Looking into Living Room

Is this not the cutest - a Telephone shelf

I don't know if the new cupboards have these cup holders anymore, but I love them.

I am enjoying my new house but have found a few challenges. I'm waiting for my boiler to come in so they can install it and we may just make it by the next frost. The fireplace is not cleaned yet so I don't dare use it plus I'm not so hot at making a fire. I usually smoke up the whole house first. I may get a bid on a gas inset.

I now am the proud co-owner of a John Deere lawn mower and it did not arrive any too soon. My lawn is now up to my ankles. I think we'll need a bagger.

I got the sink unplugged as well as the toilet, the water heater is still leaking but does not seem to be doing any major damage, got the good news that my invisible fence was already in the ground so I only had to add the machinery.

New Knitting project is going well. This is a blanket for Logan out of Roma from Jaegger. I love this yarn. It feels light as a feather and so soft. I'm sure he'll love it.

I'm also working on Ellie's pink hoodie and I'm about halfway done with it and have recent request for a simple cardigan for her in navy blue by Thanksgiving. I've chosen the pattern from Debbie Bliss book and I'm using Aurora 8 - this pattern calls for beads - I'm not sure if we'll add them or not - I'll swatch it for mom's approval.
I've had a lot of request to continue dying fiber. I plan to continue and will post on my website for now and you can order it from me direct. We'll see how this works.

Keep knittin - It's Fall!

Okay, then

Today is Wednesday - worked in the morning. The shop has been pleasantly busy. I'm not planning to close on October 30th because I still have alot of equipment and product left. I want to give everyone a chance to get a good deal and it's very nice seeing all my regular customers and getting to say goodbye.

After Catherine arrived, I went to Sears and checked out the riding lawn mowers. The new yard is looking larger by the minute. I have never had a rider before so there was alot to learn. Most of which was beyond my learning curve. I may need instructions for driving this thing.

I headed home to meet Comcast again to set up a phone line. My cell phone is not working so well in the country. Also, I met with a restoration specialist regarding my windows and I think we can repair them and the front door for less than new windows. YEAAAA!

I'm beginning to enjoy this little house more and more. Finding places for all my things. I do need help moving some boxes so I hope Dan arrives home this week sometime.

I hope to get some photos up soon but I cannot find the adapter thing. Be patient with me.

I'm knitting on my vest, Ellie's pink/white hoodie, pink socks and Logan's blanket. I'll get some photos soon. Keep knitting.

What was the temp?

Can you believe how drastic this weather change is? 90+ to 65 and maybe a frost tonight. I need to get that boiler in pretty quick.

I don't believe the person that lived here before me really lived in this house very much. Everything I use falls apart. The sink is plugging up already, the pipe to the water heater started spurting water monday - now has slowed down but I will also need a hot water heater. The garage door started going up and down all by itself on Sunday so I had to unplug it and whenever I let the dog out I had to climb the ladder and plug it back in, open the door, climb up and unplug it, etc. The garage guy came today and informed me it was shot and not safe. I will use it manually for a while cuz I cannot get a new one built yet.

The window guys and a Historical restoration guy is coming over tomorrow so we'll see what they have to say.

Sunday morning "B" and I went to the Farmer's market and bought our usual vegies and fruit but also found a beautiful woven peruvian rug for my upstairs room. It's expensive so I may not be able to afford it right now. We came home and Nicole & Peter were here to load their credenza into the car. Carver was having "Steamboat Days" so I walked Josh and Ellie over to St. Nichols church for games, petting zoo, etc. while Dad and Dan delivered the credenza to their house. I told Josh there would be "Kiddie" parade downtown and he didn't want to go because he thought I meant "Kitties"parade. It took us awhile to figure out that's what he thought it was. We had lunch and they headed home.

Dan was home so he helped me get the bed frame up and I finally got to make up my bed.
Monday the garbage guys picked up all my cardboard and the boiler guy from Center Point arrived and gave me a very attractive bid.

My comcast had gone out on Sunday so I was lost without TV or computer so I unpacked until bedtime. Comcast arrived on Monday just after I had left for work and were able to repair the cable on the roof, thank heaven.

Tuesday, today, Josh started pre-school so I went over to take care of Ellie and Logan. Josh was so excited. He had a really great time with all his friends.

I Went to work and got caught up a little. There is still alot of product left in the shop. I'll have to stay open until the end of October.

I've been knitting a little. I'm working on Logan's blue blanket for his Baptism.
I promise some photos tomorrow. I have some very cute little things to show you about this house. Stay tuned.

MOVING IS NOT FUN

I moved last Friday. Is there such a thing as professional movers? I know it's a struggle but I don't understand how these moving companies survive. Thank heaven I packed everything myself.

Nice guys, but there are always some glitches. Like leaving things behind and not sure they can carry the heaviest pieces down the stairs. "Did this piece get moved up here or was it here when you moved in"? "We don't have tools to take this bedframe apart. Could you check with the neighbors to see if they have this wrench?" I called the boss. Things got better the next day. Closing was ridiculous - I'm not sure you all want to hear about this but if you are buying or selling a home be prepared. It's a whole different ball game than it was 7 years ago.

My daughter was gone for the weekend so I was able to stay at her house during the weekend. As we are moving furniture into the new house, the moving men are commenting that "it's getting pretty full in here" Some of them didn't see the first house so they were asking, "did you come from a much larger house?" YEAAA! Well, my bedroom set did not fit in the Master bedroom (or any room for that matter). The frame didn't even fit -- so we scrapped that idea and moved all the bedroom furniture to the garage, for now. Except for two night stands, which now hold my underwear.

I left for Nicole's house and tried to sleep. It's difficult for me to relax in a new bed, etc. but I managed to fall asleep. Saturday was unpacking all day. Dan went to St. John's for the night so I didn't get too much help from him until Sunday. His friend stayed over Friday night and they watched a scarey movie in the basement. Mike thought the house was a little too scarey for him so he slept in a chair upstairs in Dan's room.

Sunday got my bed onto the floor, for now, I don't have a bed frame. Can you believe nobody stocks bedframes anymore? I had to order one from Sears. I'll get it on Friday. There are alot of things that I need to do to this house. No. 1 is replace the old boiler and water heater and move them to the basement. Hopefully that will happen next week. I need to replace windows also, clean the chimney, remove the old washer and dryer and add mine, make room for all my stuff or get rid of it. I thought I got rid of alot of stuff but I still have more.

I was feeling pretty good last week. I got Comcast TV and internet set up. The kitchen was pretty well organized. Got a shower curtain so I could take a shower and my bed was on the floor. I fell asleep on the couch on the first night I stayed here. I woke up to the sound of something at the front door. I listened and heard chewing. I made some noise and it stopped and I fell back to sleep, but I picked up some decon this week just in case. I just need to make sure Cally doesn't get into it.

Dan moved into St. Thomas on Sunday. It was hot and humid but his Dad and I helped carry all his stuff to the third floor. No roommates in the dorm room yet so we met Jenna for dinner. Dan went back for a 7 PM meeting and met one roommate. They are Sophomores and seem nice.

I went to Nicole and Peter's that night. I was feeling very sad. This is the last child and I'm now an empty nester, for real. It feels very odd! You end of hoping you have given them all the information they need, given them all the attention they needed while they were at home, missing that relationship because it will be a little different now. Big changes again for me. It seems I do this every 7 years. Each of my children are 7 years apart, bought my house and business the same year 2000! Selling my house and business the same year 2007 and last child is leaving. Lucky seven, I guess!
