First Day

I have read alot of blogs lately and found them very interesting and helpful. Therefore I thought it would be fun to have my own blog to compliment my business. I have owned a fiber shop for 6 years, Creative Fibers, and it has been an enormous learning experience.

I decided to buy this shop in my home town when it went on the market shortly after my divorce.

When I bought the shop I knew how to knit, not great, but okay. I had taken spinning lessons a few years earlier but didn't practice very much. I had never woven anything, that I can remember. Dyeing was way out there. Never tried it.

I kept the current staff for a few years so they could teach me all they knew, and they did. Over the last 6 years I have learned to knit much better, picked up crochet again, learned weaving and love spinning (although I'm still lousy) and I am so excited about Dyeing I can hardly keep my hands off the pots.

By far the best part of this career has been meeting local artists, customers who knit much better than I and are making sweaters like there is no tomorrow. I have about 10 unfinished sweaters in various stages of completion, as well as socks, hats, and shawls. I love to knit everything or at least try. Lace knitting is still quite a challenge, it must be my ADD (my children think I have this).

I will soon get up some photos of my current projects and past failures. I will talk some about my favorite yarns, etc. News at the shop and around Minneapolis.
